What’s new in the Utilities 5.5 release

The Utilities 5.5 release brings a set of updates across both 3-GIS | MIMS and 3-GIS | Productivity, spanning field workflows and GIS-based network management.

This release builds upon recent updates with improvements across field mobility, GIS editing, and system performance. Together, these updates support how teams manage and maintain network data across both field and office environments.

Bringing greater consistency across the portfolio

Utilities 5.5 continues the alignment of utility-focused applications under the 3-GIS portfolio. As part of this release, branding updates have been applied across clients, installers, and in-application references. Documentation revisions are underway, with additional updates planned for upcoming releases.

Supporting current GIS environments

This release continues alignment with Esri’s Network Management frameworks across both MIMS and Productivity.

MIMS supports Esri Network Management 3.5.x / 11.5 environments, while Productivity aligns with Enterprise Network Management 3.5.x / 11.3 and 11.5.

This ensures that utilities can continue operating within their existing GIS environments while adopting updated capabilities across both field and network management workflows.

Improving how work gets done in the field and in GIS

A key focus of Utilities 5.5 is making common tasks more efficient and easier to manage.

Updates in this release improve:

  • How edits in MIMS are handled in the field with more precise control over redline selection
  • How MIMS users interact with data in mobile and tablet environments, including updates to editing controls and configuration options
  • How configurations, such as search layers and attribute inputs, are managed across environments

These changes are designed to simplify routine work, helping users spend less time navigating the system and more time completing tasks.

Adding structure to operational workflows

Within Productivity, Utilities 5.5 introduces new capabilities that support more structured network management processes.

This includes:

  • New tools to support asset lifecycle workflows, such as abandonment
  • Expanded visibility into validation errors within analysis workflows, supporting QA and review processes
  • New options for managing how attributes are propagated across the network

This helps standardize how work is performed, reducing reliance on manual steps and improving consistency across teams.

Improving performance and day-to-day operations

Performance and usability improvements are a key part of Utilities 5.5 across both MIMS and Productivity.

Updates to default system behavior and data handling reduce unnecessary data loads and improve responsiveness, particularly in larger network environments, with measurable performance improvements based on how associations and non-spatial data are handled.

More broadly, this release continues to focus on practical, operational improvements, refining workflows and system performance to better support how utilities manage their networks day to day.
