Company-wide collaboration made easy

As a cooperative, Eniig provides electricity, fiber infrastructure, and district heating to nearly 400,000 customers. The company formed as a result of a merger between EnergiMidt and HEF in 2016. Prior to the merger, EnergiMidt and HEF were utilizing two different systems. The merger initiated the search for not only a new network management system, but also a way of migrating and converting the data from the old systems without corrupting or losing any data.

Company: Eniig

Industry: Telecom | Utilities

Location: Denmark

Products used: 3-GIS | Web; 3-GIS | Mobile; APIs

Key challenge: Siloed data, multiple asset management systems

Key outcome: 7.5M port and 2.1M fiber records migrated in 5 months

Vision

Eniig’s goal was not only to replace legacy systems. After the merger of EnergiMidt and HEF, the company wanted a stronger foundation for scaling fiber operations, connecting more customers, and opening its infrastructure to more service providers.

To support that vision, Eniig needed network data in one place, business processes that could work across the newly combined organization, and a system flexible enough to support planning, documentation, construction, service, and maintenance workflows.

With 3-GIS, Eniig moved toward a more open, scalable fiber model built around accessible network data and company-wide collaboration.

Outcomes

The transition to 3-GIS gave Eniig a unified environment for managing fiber network data after the merger. By eliminating disconnected systems, the company expanded access to network information across sales, installation, customer service, project management, and fiber operations.

The project also created measurable operational gains, including a faster time to market and a completed legacy data conversion in five months. With millions of records converted into 3-GIS, Eniig gained a stronger foundation for day-to-day network work and long-term service provider expansion.

Key outcomes included:

  • Reduced time to market from 23 days to 17 days

  • Migrated legacy data in 5 months

  • Expanded access to network data across the organization

We are using the data in the whole organization...so they can use it in sales, or in installation, or in customer service. They can get the data they want or need for doing their job.

Deliverables

The Eniig project centered on converting two legacy systems into one 3-GIS environment while preparing teams to work differently across the combined organization.

3-GIS and Powel supported the migration, implementation, and training needed to bring the new system into operation. The project included legacy data conversion, system implementation, user training, and support for workflows tied to planning, documentation, construction, and network operations.

Core deliverables included:

  • Conversion from two legacy systems

  • Migration of fiber and port records

  • Implementation of a unified network management environment

  • Training for 27 users across key workflows

  • Support for web-based access to network data

  • A foundation for digital and mobile field workflows

Performance enablers

Several factors made the transition valuable for Eniig beyond the initial data conversion. The web-based structure of 3-GIS gave teams a more flexible way to access and use network information, especially compared to the company’s previous desktop-based environment.

That flexibility aligned with Eniig’s goal to involve contractors through digital and mobile tools. It also supported the company’s shift toward business processes led by operational needs rather than system limitations.

Performance enablers included:

  • Better data availability for sales, installation, customer service, and operations

  • Support for contractor and field access

  • Easier modification of network changes

  • A scalable foundation for open fiber infrastructure
