3-GIS Wins Contract To Enhance and Commercialize EPRI-Developed Technology
Firm Will Update and License Software Used To Streamline Transmission Facility Inspection
Huntsville, Ala. - February 23, 2007 - 3-GIS today announced a contract with the Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI) to exclusively license EPRI's Transmission Inspection and Maintenance System (TIMS™) software, a system used by more than a dozen electric utilities in the United States to optimize transmission inspection processes.
3-GIS, based in Decatur, Alabama, will use its extensive experience in developing utility applications to both enhance and extend the enterprise capabilities of TIMS, while continuing to develop TIMS' more traditional transmission inspection interface.
TIMS enables electric utilities to more easily collect and manage complex transmission line inspection and maintenance data. The product comprises two separate modules - an office module for long-term data management and a field module for data collection.
"We're very excited to be taking the TIMS product forward and moving it to another level of capability," said 3-GIS President, Tom Counts. "This software serves as an important technology backbone for a number of electric utilities, and it is our vision to extend that capability into an even more enterprise-focused application."
A global solution provider, 3-GIS offers utilities a focused approach that leverages GIS-based field tools to automate the workforce and insure enterprise access to the most current view possible of facilities-based data. This approach enables utility providers to maintain a full enterprise view of their data - allowing data collected by field technicians to easily reference sophisticated transmission and inspection data.
"We plan to focus our efforts on the user community which relies heavily on this tool, said Eric Fulcher, 3-GIS utilities practice vice president. "They have their own vision of where TIMS can take them, and we're excited to continue this development with their ideas and support."
3-GIS plans to continue to market the newly enhanced TIMS offering to existing TIMS customers and to the global transmission industry. 3-GIS plans to market TIMS inspection-rich capabilities beyond the traditional utilities industries, presenting the product to telecommunication providers and mobile radio transmission operators. As part of the commercializing agreement, 3-GIS has exclusive license to sell TIMS directly to customers or one of the many 3-GIS international channels.
