Decatur, AL – June 13, 2011 – Tom Counts, President and CEO of 3-GIS received the Decatur-Morgan County Chamber's 2011 Small Business Person of the Year. 3-GIS is a GIS software development and services company based in Decatur, Alabama.

Tom Counts, Jerry Golden, and Tommy Siniard, former employees together in Huntsville, launched 3-GIS LLC in 2006. Since then, it has grown to 29 employees, and on last week, Tom Counts, the company president, walked away with the Decatur-Morgan County Chamber's 2011 Small Business Person of the Year. Counts thanked Golden and Siniard, calling the two his brothers, as he accepted his award for Small Business Person of the Year.

Since 2006, 3-GIS has become a globetrotter, forming business relationships in places such as Spain, Dubai and the Caribbean. Counts has even met with high-ranking Russian officials, including the minister of energy, at the Kremlin to discuss defining a data model and data collection process in support of a smart grid for the country. Recently in Alabama, 3-GIS built a system to help map areas in Jefferson and Franklin counties devastated by the April 27 tornadoes, saving the Federal Emergency Management Agency weeks of survey work.
